Frequently asked questions
Q: What is exactly expected of me?
A: Members commit to attending 4 one-hour meetings per year and donating $100 to the winning charity at each meeting, for a total annual commitment of $400.
Q: Can I donate using cash, cheque or e-transfer?
A: No. We ask you to donate via CanadaHelps.org which supports over 85,000 Canadian registered charities via digital donations. See how easy it is... If you need help just contact us and we can walk you through it.
Q: Do any of my funds go to administrative costs?
A: Absolutely zero. The events are organized and operated entirely by volunteers. 100% of the money donated goes directly to the chosen charities.
Q: What if I can't attend a meeting?
A: While attendance is strongly encouraged, busy schedules are understandable. If you cannot attend, you are still expected to honor your$100 financial commitment and direct your donation to the winning charity. You will be notified of the successful recipient charity so you can send your donation via CanadaHelps.org to that charity.
Q: Are my donations tax-deductible?
A: Yes. CanadaHelps.org captures your donation, forwards it to the registered charity and issues you with a CRA Tax Receipt directly. Click here for information on tax receipts.
Q: How do I nominate a charity?
A: Once you have registered as a committed member, you have the opportunity to nominate local, registered charities based anywhere in Lanark County. 100 Men Who Care Lanark County typically organizes nominations and voting at the same quarterly meeting. The nominated groups must be registered, non-profits or charities directly benefiting the local community.
Q: What if the charity I voted for doesn't win?
A: The winning charity is decided by a simple majority vote. All members, including those who voted for a different organization, agree to make their donation to the successful winning charity.
Q: Can I join 100 Men Who Care Lanark County at any time?
A: Yes, you can join year-round. Your commitment simply begins at the first meeting you attend as a signed member.
Q: Can I opt-out of supporting charities I am morally opposed to?
A: Yes. You have the right to exercise conscientious objection at the time a charity is nominated by providing your name and cell number to an organizing volunteer and receiving a CONFIRMED OBJECTION: [Charity name] ticket. Should that charity win, your donation may be withheld and added to the next series of nominations.
